After going to the last Future dance and being incredibly impressed with the set up, the music and the atmosphere I just couldn't wait for the next one to arrive, and here it was...

This event started at 8pm, how early!! not too early because me and my best mate Dan arrived at the venue at around 8.45 to be greeted by ravers all over the place, we parked up and couldn't wait to get in, there was a slight queue for the ticket holders but we

futuredance21-10-00pic1.jpg (198959 bytes)
had no queue what so ever and was straight in, by this time the place seemed more packed than 10pm the time we got there last time, as soon as you walk in the place you get blown away with the sound systems, lights and decor, the Future dance crew certainly know how to stage an event, and there seemed to be no effort or cost spared this time with the whole place done out in a Halloween theme.

As usual straight to the hardcore arena, as this is the

futuredance21-10-00pic2.jpg (201598 bytes)
largest arena in the place it seemed a bit empty at first but soon filled out nicely but still with plenty of room to dance and no one treading on your feet, one thing about Future dance is that if you like hardcore you are guaranteed the best in hardcore music new and old and tonight was no exception with some of the best hardcore I have heard out for a long time, the best sets of the night being played by Brisk, Vibes (as normal), Kaos (top new set) and Hixxy (even though he did try and cram so many tunes into his set it was like he was  futuredance21-10-00pic3.jpg (204847 bytes)
trying to break a world record), with all this excellent hardcore around just made the atmosphere out of this world with smiley happy people just everywhere you looked (except the security who seemed to have a bit of an attitude), one thing I did notice was how young ravers are getting (or maybe it's just showing how old I am) I'm not against this at all as they are the backbone of the future scene (and the females look so fine) but I do wish sometimes that there were some older ravers around as we started it all, and I also wouldn't feel the  futuredance21-10-00pic4.jpg (194471 bytes)
oldest person in the place!

Back to the rave, and the other arenas, first the techno arena, this seemed to go down a storm and was jam packed for more than several points of the night, techno is a bit to manic for me so I tend to stay away or my head just might explode, but the times I did go into this arena, I couldn't tell you who was playing but it was rather a good selection of tunes and the crowd were loving it including me, as for the old skool arena,

futuredance21-10-00pic5.jpg (204180 bytes)
old skool will always be popular but here it could of done with a few more people but as always with old skool the music was tops with the best set going out to DNA, welcome back mate, it was good to see you again!!

As the hardcore was so good in the main arena I stayed here for most of the night, if the music wasn't good enough, the lights and lasers were enough to blow you away, I loved the laser when it hit the disco ball on

futuredance21-10-00pic6.jpg (211101 bytes)
the ceiling, the only moan I do have is that they have so many lights to dazzle you that it sometimes gets just to light in the place, and when your having a good time!! you don't need it being too light.

And if the production inside wasn't enough you just had to step outside for a go on the bouncy castles or several full on funfair rides, I didn't take them up on either but there sure were many people who did, and from past experience I know why!!

futuredance21-10-00pic7.jpg (191712 bytes)
Overall most certainly a top night which I'm glad I did not miss, the music was the best, the production was the best and the atmosphere was the best, well worth your ticket money, probably the best value event for you money, apart from it finishing at 5am, not down to the promoters I know but why do the councils give licenses for such silly hours, there are no trains at this time and the noise must upset the neighbors let alone what leaving at 5 does to a raver, I know I didn't like it one bit, especially with Raindance the following week  futuredance21-10-00pic8.jpg (196553 bytes)
finishing at 9am. sort it out officials.

What will the Future dance crew bring us next, well all I know is that I can't wait and that it will be an event I wouldn't miss for the world (I have heard they are doing a Christmas special).

BIG, BIG SHOUTS OUT TO...Future dance crew (well done and keep it up), Tom, Dan the man (my raving brother), Greg-Steve-Paul and Sam (when you

futuredance21-10-00pic9.jpg (207728 bytes)
finally turned up), anyone I have forgotten (sorry my memory is terrible), and finally but certainly not least all the raving crew that went and made it such a memorable night, keep on raving!!

REVIEW NUMBER TWO

I am constantly amazed how my ridiculously high expectations of every new Future Dance are always completely surpassed by reality. Future Dance 4 - The Monster Mash-up - was certainly no exception! Each rave I attend I always talk about how the stage, the lights and the decorations are all amazing - but quite honestly my breath was so taken away when I entered the main arena that I think I actually passed out for a while due to lack of oxygen!! The Go Mental crew are definitely not resting on their laurels - the sheer amount
of effort put in to all the stage decorations, the lighting, the lasers, the posters and all the scary Halloween "corpses" around the venue was quite superb.

However, an amazing production is nothing without the music. Were we to be disappointed? I think NOT!! First up in the Techno arena was DJ Sonic who played a shortened set due to the opening times being put a half hour backward - but what I heard was wicked, a nice hard freeform set - without so much of the
futuredance21-10-00pic11.jpg (201958 bytes)
emphasis being on the trancey tunes, which was very nice indeed.

In the Hardcore arch at this time were the up-and-coming DJs from the Isle of Wight - Nemesis and Jonny Lee. They played an extended set due to a no-show DJ, and played very well indeed. A very nice tune selection got the ravers raving - setting the standard for the DJs yet to come.
Now, I reckoned it was time to check out the outside amusements. I made my way outside onto the bouncy castles and sat and chatted to many of the friendly happy ravers who had also decided to take time out from the frantic pace of the main arenas. I had also spied the fairground rides, and made my way over to them. Unfortunately my stomach said no - so I decided to save my 2 for another glow-stick!! However, I saw many people making their way over to the rides over the course of the night, and thoroughly enjoying them!  futuredance21-10-00pic12.jpg (185735 bytes)
Maybe the prices were a bit too high though - on top of a 15 ticket.

Hmm, who was it next? Oh yes, it was the one, the only the DJ Brisk. What a set! He played his set hard and fast - just what we've come to expect from the Next Generation man. Superb tight mixing, wicked scratching and a fantastic tune selection put this set up there with the best in the night. Awe-inspired is the only word which I can describe how I felt when I saw this
man in action - he is such a superb technician on the decks.

A quick stumble into the Techno arena and a quick dance to some hard hard house was next. This arena had all the techno-heads bouncing to a wide range of techno sounds. Sometimes it was hard house, sometimes freeform, sometimes hard acid techno, and
sometimes gabba - but always wicked! DJs to mention in here would be Producer, Clarkee and Sharkey for
futuredance21-10-00pic13.jpg (208722 bytes)
absolutely brilliant sets.

Gosh - I was in a state of pure heaven by this time - everywhere I went I saw happy smiley faces (albeit without masks on, as the security had taken them off them!), not a hint of bad attitude anywhere to be seen. Up next in the hardcore arena was DJ Devotion I think - unfortunately I missed most of his set - but from all reports it was yet another top set.
Another set I was very very disappointed in missing was DJ Energy. Apparently he played a superb set - showcasing six brand new Nu-Energy tunes, alongside some of his other tunes. DJ Energy is, quite honestly, my top DJ of the year 2000. Every time he plays a fresh, new set - every time the mixing is spot on, every time the ravers are taken to a higher level of heaven. Full respect to that man - keep it up for 2001!!!

A rather pleasant surprise to many was the inclusion of
futuredance21-10-00pic14.jpg (197627 bytes)
DJ DNA in the line-up at short notice. Unfortunately, due to some line-up reorganization shenanigans DNA was to play in the Old Skool room. Anyone who was there to witness his set felt honored to experience a set of the very highest quality. I feel my words cannot do justice to this hour of the night. DNA showcased many of his new tunes - most of them dub-plates - mixing with style, scratching (once behind his back!) with panache - alongside the vocal talents of MC Jam. Wonderful, amazing, mind-blowing, breath-taking,
smile-fixing - divine! Set of the night most definitely. Heh, but don't let it go to your head Morgz! Torn Souls now resides at the top of my all-time favorite tune list!! This was a new style of hardcore that will certainly gain the respect and attention it deserves - look out for this man at Raindance, Slammin Vinyl and Elation - the hours that he is on will definitely be the top hours at those respective raves!!!

Anyway, enough about Morgz! Another quick sit
futuredance21-10-00pic15.jpg (202698 bytes)
outside and - who was that I saw entering the Hardcore arena? Could it be DJ Vibes? My god, yes it was!! Vibes' sets continue to create a definite polarization of views - many people leaving the arena for the harder sounds in the Techno arena - but many more flooding in to hear the famous Vibes and Livelee show. Ok, so maybe many think that Vibes and Livelee should not have a place in a modern respectable hardcore scene - but quite honestly they will always have a fantastic history, and it's quite good to relive that
history once in a while! Livelee really got the crowd going with his rhymes - and Vibes played a characteristically slightly cheesy set, with not the best mixing of the night perhaps! However, with tunes like Died In Your Arms blasting out of the very loud sound system - with all the hands in the air, ravers singing along to the haunting and atmospheric lyrics, the laser captivating all with their eyes open - that is Hardcore Raving!!
futuredance21-10-00pic16.jpg (198781 bytes)
Having promised myself to check out Hixxy's set I was somewhat disappointed to learn that I missed it! I was even more disappointed when I heard that he had played a rather fantastic 1996/7 set - with some of his Antisocial tunes being played to full effect! Stompy was another set I missed - and one that I didn't hear much about, to be honest - so I can't really comment!!

My god, doesn't time just flash by when you're having the amount of fun I, and hundreds of other ravers, were
having! I checked my watch and it was already 4am!! Time for the last set of the night - and it was therefore time for the Future Dance promoters - Kaos and Ethos. I have to say that in past Future Dances I have been slightly less than impressed with some of Kaos' sets - but he has obviously heard some of that criticism because his set was one of the very highest quality. Playing many of the new Go Mental tunes coming out on Labels such as Ultra Violet, Go Mental Platinum - he certainly got the crowd rocking again! The set  futuredance21-10-00pic17.jpg (203585 bytes)
started off with a favorite of mine - a tune by Kaos and Ethos - a hard, haunting, innovative and uplifting tune - definitely one to look for in the future. Those trancey lyrics - they definitely do it for me! I also loved the new Human Traffic sampled tune. The set was hard, the set was hardcore - respect to Johnny for avoiding the too-cheesy sounds we have heard in the past from him!!

The signs of a wicked rave are when you are dancing
like a madman right to the end, and you really cannot bear for it to end. Quite honestly almost every aspect of this rave was perfect. Future Dance is here to stay - Future Dance is up there with the very very best, and is striving to become the best. I really do think that Future Dance will be the biggest and the best if they carry on in this vein. Absolutely amazing.

Massive huge shouts and hugs to: Raver Jo, Kev, Andy, Natalie, Iram, Hashi, Nemesis, Mupster, Jody,
